On Wednesday, October 9, Rwanda confirmed no new case of Marburg virus disease among the 111 cumulative tests that were conducted on the same day, according to the Health Ministry’s daily update on the Marburg situation.

So far, there have been a total of 58 confirmed cases of the Marburg virus, with 33 people still in isolation and receiving treatment, 12 people recovered from the virus, and 13 people have passed away since the outbreak of this deadly virus.

According to the Health Ministry, “Since the announcement of the outbreak, all new confirmed cases have been within the hospital cluster in Kigali and their contacts, and all are under isolation and treatment.”

“There is no evidence of community transmission.”

The symptoms of the Marburg virus include high fever, severe headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea.

“If you notice any symptoms, go to the nearest health facility quickly or call 114,” the Ministry of Health said.

Health authorities advised the general public to avoid close contact with symptomatic people and to enhance hygiene as preventative measures.

Rwanda has secured 700 doses of the Marburg vaccine from the Sabin Vaccine Institute, and vaccination for frontline responders commenced on October 7, 2014, ensuring their readiness and safety.
