In a thrilling CAF Champions League preliminary round match, APR FC of Rwanda overcame a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Tanzania’s Azam FC with a dominant 2-0 victory at home in Kigali. The match, which kicked off at 6 PM local time, saw APR FC take control early on, applying relentless pressure on the visitors.
Despite Azam FC’s strategy of defending their one-goal advantage, APR FC created multiple scoring opportunities, with Ruboneka Jean Bosco being particularly outstanding. Ruboneka’s persistence paid off when he scored a brilliant goal just before halftime, thanks to a precise cross from team captain Niyomugabo Claude, bringing the aggregate score level.
The second half saw APR FC maintain their aggressive play, determined to secure the win. Their efforts were rewarded in the 62nd minute when Mugisha Gilbert added a second goal, igniting the home crowd and solidifying APR FC’s lead.
Azam FC made several substitutions in a bid to salvage the tie, but APR FC’s defense held firm. Despite Azam’s late attempts to score, APR FC sealed the match and advanced to the next round of the CAF Champions League, bringing pride to Rwandan football fans.
