EasyGroup EXP, the organizer of the Veterans Clubs World Championship (VCWC 2024), has announced that the tournament has not been cancelled and will provide new details for the event after its partnership with Rwanda was terminated.
In May 2022, the local football governing body (Ferwafa) and the Federation Internationale de Football Veterans en Europe (FIFVE) signed a memorandum of understanding agreeing that both parties would work together to organize the Veterans Club Championship (VCWC 2024) in Rwanda.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the presidents of both federations: Olivier Mugabo of Ferwafa at the time, and Fred Siewe of FIFVE, as well as Cameroon football legend Patrick Mboma, among others.
Subsequently, the government of Rwanda entered into a partnership with EasyGroup EXP, the organizers of the Veterans Clubs World Championship (VCWC 2024), to collaborate on preparing for the tournament.
On Wednesday, June 26, The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced that the Veterans Club Championship (VCWC 2024), which was scheduled for September 2024 in Kigali, had been cancelled due to the termination of the partnership between Rwanda and EasyGroup EXP.
“This decision comes after careful consideration and mutual agreement between both parties,” RDB stated in the press release.
“Additionally, the Visit Rwanda brand will no longer be associated with any marketing activities or branding by the event organizers moving forward,” RDB added in the press release.
According to the press release from EasyGroup EXP, they regretted informing partners, sponsors, legends, and the general public of the decision made by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) to terminate their partnership regarding the organization of the Veterans Clubs World Championship (VGWG).
“On June 18, 2024, we received a letter from the RDB titled ‘Termination Notice.’ In this correspondence, citing the provisions of our binding contract, the RDB informed us of its unilateral decision to terminate our agreement. It is important to note that the aforementioned termination notice neither mentioned any breach committed by EASYGROUP EXP LTD nor provided any justification for the RDB’s decision,” EasyGroup Exp Ltd stated in a press release.
EASYGROUP EXP LTD reassured its other partners, legends from around the world who are the pride of the tournament, that the VCWC 2024 has not been cancelled and will provide updates on the situation and any measures taken regarding the new context of the VCWC 2024 organization.
