Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Mubarakh Muganga, began a three-day working visit to Bangladesh on Wednesday, June 12 at the invitation of the Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Army.

“The purpose of the visit is to strengthen the cooperation between the 2 armed forces,” a tweet from Rwanda Defence revealed.

The two countries have a strong cooperation in security. In 2018, a group of soldiers from RDF participated in the peacekeeping training ‘Shanti Doot’ in Bangladesh.

Rwanda and Bangladesh have enjoyed good diplomatic relations since 2012.

Both countries are among the biggest troop contributors to the United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Apart from security issues, both countries collaborate in other sectors.

In 2023, Rwanda and Bangladesh signed a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) to enhance connectivity, trade, and people-to-people relationships between the two countries.

The air service agreement has created the basis for the two countries’ airlines to operate air transport services that will facilitate the movement of people, cargo, and mail, in the context of strengthening business bonds and promoting tourism between Rwanda and Bangladesh.

The agreement will contribute enormously to the economic growth of both countries, and will notably provide the Rwandan private sector with access to a market of more than 160 million people.
