Garissa University Celebrates its 5th Graduation Ceremony

Kenya’s commitment to education as a cornerstone for equality and opportunity was highlighted during the 5th graduation ceremony at Garissa University. The event not only marked the academic achievements of the graduating students but also underscored the significant investments and developments aimed at enhancing the educational landscape in the country.

A Substantial Investment in the Future

Recognizing that education is the most powerful equaliser and multiplier of opportunities in society, Kenya has invested a remarkable KSh660 billion in the education of its children. This substantial investment underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality education. By empowering the younger generation through education, Kenya aims to foster a more equitable society where opportunities are accessible to all.

Honouring the Past, Building the Future

The graduation ceremony at Garissa University was also a poignant moment of reflection and remembrance. Earlier in the day, a foundation stone for the new Garissa University Administration Block was laid, symbolizing growth and resilience. This new development is part of the ongoing efforts to rebuild and enhance the institution’s infrastructure, ensuring it continues to provide a conducive environment for learning and growth.

A commemorative wreath was laid in honour of the 148 students who tragically lost their lives in a terrorist attack at the university in 2015. This solemn act of remembrance serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of the Garissa University community. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the students and staff who have continued to strive for excellence in the face of adversity.

Enhancing Infrastructure and Resources

In addition to laying the foundation stone, a new borehole was commissioned at the institution. This borehole will significantly improve the water supply, addressing one of the critical needs of the university. Reliable access to water is essential for the well-being of students and staff and is crucial for maintaining the operations of the university. This development is part of broader efforts to improve the infrastructure and resources available to the institution, further enabling it to provide high-quality education and support to its students.

A Vision for Equality and Opportunity

The substantial investment in education by the Kenyan government is a clear indication of its vision for a more equitable society. By prioritizing education, the government acknowledges its role as a vital tool for social and economic development. Education opens doors to various opportunities, equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they need to contribute effectively to society.
