Marburg: No new case on October 15, four recovered

On Tuesday, October 15, Rwanda confirmed no new cases of Marburg virus disease among the 213 cumulative tests that were conducted on the same day, and four people recovered from the virus, according to the Health Ministry’s daily update on the Marburg situation.

As of Tuesday, October 15, there have been a total of 62 confirmed cases of the Marburg virus, with 17 people still in isolation and receiving treatment, 30 people recovered from the virus, and 15 people have passed away since the outbreak.

According to the Health Ministry, “Since the announcement of the outbreak, all new confirmed cases have been within the hospital cluster in Kigali and their contacts, and all are under isolation and treatment. There is no evidence of community transmission.”

Rwanda secured 1700 doses of the Marburg vaccine from the Sabin Vaccine Institute, and vaccination for frontline responders commenced on October 7, 2014, ensuring their readiness and safety with 771 vaccine doses administered.
