On Monday, October 07, Rwanda recorded seven new cases of Marburg virus disease, according to the Health Ministry’s daily update on the Marburg situation.

These seven new positive cases were recorded among 280 cumulative tests that were conducted on the same day.

So far, there have been a total of 56 confirmed cases of the Marburg virus, with 36 people still in isolation and receiving treatment, eight people recovered from the virus, and 12 people have passed away since the outbreak of this deadly virus.

The symptoms of the Marburg virus include high fever, severe headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea.

“If you notice any symptoms, go to your nearest health facility quickly or call 114,” the Ministry of Health said.

Health authorities advised the general public to avoid close contact with symptomatic people and to enhance hygiene as preventative measures.

Rwanda has secured 700 doses of the Marburg vaccine from the Sabin Vaccine Institute, and vaccination for frontline responders commenced on October 7, 2014, ensuring their readiness and safety.
