The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr Valentine Uwamariya, alongside other leaders, urged the children who participated in the 16th National Children Summit and other children to avoid drugs because they are the hope of the country and the world in general. They are future parents, workers, and leaders.
From Wednesday, December 27, 1500 children from all sectors and districts of the country gathered at the Nkumba Training Center in Burera District in North of Country.
These children are at the National Children’s Summit, which is held every year, now in its 16th edition.
At a summit that took place on Thursday, December 28, children and the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr. Valentine Uwamariya, together with leaders from the National Children Development Agency (NCDA), the Governor of the Northern Province, Maurice Mugabowagahunde, various leaders in government agencies, partners, security agencies, religions, churches, and others came together.
Minister Uwamariya, in her speech, said that building the desired Rwanda starts early with young children. She pointed out that this forum aims to build the capacity of children.
Highlighting today’s theme, #IAmtheFuture, Minister Dr. Uwamariya reminded the children that they are the hope of the country and the world as a whole. They are the future parents, workers, and leaders.
In her message to the children, the Director General of the National Children Development Agency (NCDA), Assumpta Ingabire, thanked the children for participating in this meeting and reminded them that the child the country wants must refrain from using drugs.
“Let’s remember that alcohol is not for minors,” Ingabire said.
In a remark from a representative child, Sarah Asiimwe asked parents to continue to be close to their children and educate them in a good manner. She asked the leaders to continue creating plans and strategies that promote children’s rights and educators to provide knowledge that will help them prepare for their future.
During the meeting, the children expressed their opinions on the issues they want to be resolved as soon as possible because they affect their rights. They brought up problems such as family conflicts, children with disabilities not receiving all the services like others, and emphasized the issue of school feeding.
