President Paul Kagame gifted laptops to all young people who participated in the Rwanda First Lego League (FLL) challenge and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hackathon.
On March 16 at Intare Conference Arena, President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame presided over the award ceremony for the winners of the Rwanda First Lego League (FLL) challenge and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hackathon.
During his remarks, President Kagame emphasized that artificial intelligence and Robotics are outstanding ways to learn science, engineering and technology as well as teamwork.
“Robotics and artificial intelligence are outstanding ways to learn science, engineering, technology — and also teamwork. We are very happy with the results of the national robotics program and competition, and the A.I. Hackathon,” President Kagame said.
President Kagame added that he wants to make a small contribution toward these efforts, specifically to the participants from Rwanda, Botswana, Nigeria, and Uganda who are present.
“I want to give our young people a laptop. Just make sure you deliver my gifts to those in the final,” President Kagame said.
Rwanda is the first country in Africa to adopt a specific policy governing the use of AI technology.
In May 2023, the Government of Rwanda indicated that if AI is used properly, the country’s gross domestic product would increase by $589 million in the next five years.
