President Paul Kagame and Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) President Félix Tshisekedi met in Doha on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in a trilateral meeting hosted by Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to discuss the crisis in eastern DRC.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, the Heads of State welcomed the progress made in the Luanda and Nairobi processes, as well as the joint EAC-SADC summit held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on February 8, 2025.
The three Heads of State reaffirmed their commitment to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, as agreed upon during the Dar es Salaam summit.
“The Heads of State then agreed on the need to continue the discussions initiated in Doha in order to establish solid foundations for lasting peace as envisioned in the Luanda/Nairobi process, now merged and/or aligned,” the statement read.
Qatar’s role as a mediator was widely appreciated during the meeting.
President Kagame and President Tshisekedi expressed gratitude to the Emir of Qatar for his hospitality and the efforts made by the State of Qatar in hosting the talks.
“This fruitful meeting, which helped build confidence in a shared commitment to a secure and stable future for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the region,” the statement concluded .
