Day 8 of the Rwanda Premier League brought excitement and unexpected twists, with Rayon Sports celebrating a big win over rivals Kiyovu Sports and APR FC drawing controversy for fielding an extra foreign player.
The action began on Friday, November 1st, as Gasogi United was prepared well to host Etincelles FC from Rubavu district. It was a tough outing for Gasogi at Kigali Pele stadium, as they lost 0-1.
Saturday’s highlight was the much anticipated clash between Rayon Sports and Kiyovu Sports at Kigali Pele Stadium. Rayon’s supporters were delighted, especially as former team leaders, previously banned, returned with renewed motivation. This boost helped Rayon secure a massive victory over Kiyovu (4-0), marking their first win against Kiyovu in nearly four years.
Other Saturday results saw Bugesera FC draw 1-1 with Musanze FC, Police FC narrowly defeat Rutsiro FC 3-2, and Amagaju FC claim a 3-1 win over Vision FC.
Sunday’s matches included a notable showdown between Gorilla FC and APR FC, which ended in a goalless draw. However, APR made a rare error by fielding seven foreign players instead of the league’s limit of six. This mistake, which lasted about five minutes in the second half, was quickly corrected by APR, but Gorilla FC has since reported the incident to the league board for further review.
From other Sunday results saw Marines FC beat Muhazi United 2-1, while Mukura and AS Kigali ended in a 0-0 draw.
After Day 8, Police FC now leads the league standings, while Kiyovu Sports sits at the bottom.
