Rwanda, Ukraine discuss strengthening bilateral relations

On Thursday, July 18, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in Charge of Regional Cooperation, Gen (Rtd) James Kabarebe, received Andrii Pravednyk, Ambassador of Ukraine to Rwanda for a courtesy call, and discussed strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.

On 18 April, Ukraine opened its first embassy in Kigali. During the opening ceremony, Subkh Maksym Aliyovych, the Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, said the inauguration of Ukraine’s Embassy in Kigali shows his country’s willingness to expand relations and cooperation with Rwanda.

In January 2024, President Paul Kagame, who was in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, met with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.

Over the last two years, cooperation between Rwanda and Ukraine has been advancing.

Rwanda exported coffee, tea, and minerals to Ukraine, while Ukraine exported oil, beverages, and wheat flour to Rwanda. Trade between Rwanda and Ukraine was about $2.1 million in 2021.
