Community leader and human rights advocate Beny Aterdit Bol OAM has officially launched his memoir Blessed and Unblessed and announced the creation of the Beny Bol Foundation, a charitable initiative focused on improving access to education for underprivileged children in South Sudan.
The launch event, held in Brisbane on 10 July 2025, was attended by a large and diverse audience, including dignitaries, government officials, community leaders, and members of the public. Notable attendees included Queensland Premier David Crisafulli, Senator Paul Scarr, Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick MP, and Minister Fiona Simpson MP, who holds portfolios for Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, and Multiculturalism. Senior representatives from Home Affairs, Multicultural Affairs, the Queensland Police Service, and multicultural community leaders from across the state were also present. At the heart of the evening was Beny’s personal story, detailed in his memoir. He spoke movingly about the loss of his child, an event that deeply challenged his faith and led him to confront questions about suffering and purpose. Blessed and Unblessed offers a candid exploration of grief, resilience, and spiritual awakening. “I wrote this book not just to share my pain,” Beny said, “but to offer hope and remind others that even in deep suffering, we can find strength and renewed purpose.” Premier Crisafulli praised Beny’s leadership and commitment to service, while Minister Simpson highlighted his impact on multicultural inclusion. Senator Scarr and Treasurer Dick also paid tribute to his tireless efforts in advancing community harmony and support. Attendees spoke warmly of his integrity, humility, and quiet determination to build bridges across cultures. The evening also marked the launch of the Beny Bol Foundation, which aims to construct schools and expand educational opportunities in South Sudan. A fundraising segment encouraged contributions to support this mission. “Education gave me a second chance,” Beny said. “Now I want to give that same opportunity to children in South Sudan especially those facing poverty and conflict.” Blessed and Unblessed is already drawing widespread interest. More than a personal memoir, it is a universal story of survival, faith, and purpose that speaks to anyone who has endured loss or sought meaning through adversity. Supporters across Australia and beyond are encouraged to purchase the book and contribute to the foundation. Proceeds will fund school construction and education initiatives in South Sudan.

Beny is widely recognized for his work as President of the Queensland African Communities Council.
