The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed key dates for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027, a landmark tournament that will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The opening match is scheduled for Saturday, June 19, 2027, with the final set for Saturday, July 17, 2027. The dates were approved by the FIFA Council at its recent meeting in Vancouver, Canada. CAF will announce the host country for both the opening match and the final in due course.
The 2027 edition will be the first AFCON ever hosted by three nations, a historic milestone that CAF says presents a unique opportunity to engage more than 400 million people across the East African region.
With the preliminary round complete, the qualification journey continues. The draw for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers will take place on May 19, 2026, determining the pathway to the final tournament.
A total of 48 teams, including the three co-hosts, will contest the qualifiers, divided into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the finals. Matches will be played across three FIFA international windows:
Matchdays 1 & 2: September 21 – October 6, 2026
Matchdays 3 & 4: November 9 – 17, 2026
Matchdays 5 & 6: March 22 – 30, 2027
AFCON 2027 marks the tournament's return to the East African region for the first time since Ethiopia hosted the competition in 1976, a gap of five decades.
The tournament will build on the momentum of recent editions, including AFCON Morocco 2025 and AFCON Côte d'Ivoire 2023, which delivered record commercial revenue, sponsorship growth, and global broadcast audiences.
With preparations underway across all three host nations, AFCON 2027 is shaping up to be a defining moment for football in East Africa and on the continent.
