On July 1, 2024, President Paul Kagame officially inaugurated the newly renovated 45,000-seat Amahoro Stadium alongside Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
During his remarks at the inauguration ceremony, President Kagame thanked the President of CAF and the President of FIFA for inspiring the construction of this world-class sporting facility.
"Let me thank the President of CAF, my brother Patrice Motsepe, and another brother and friend, the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino. The two of them inspired us to create a world-class sporting facility like this one," President Kagame said.
After the inauguration, the FIFA Boss took to his Instagram page to write a congratulatory message to President Kagame.
"My congratulations to my dear brother and President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, on the inauguration of Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. This is a momentous occasion that will drive further growth of football in this beautiful country," the FIFA Boss wrote on Instagram.
Gianni commended Kagame's ongoing support for football development in Rwanda, as witnessed when Rwanda hosted the 2023 FIFA Congress.
"President Kagame has consistently supported and pushed for the development of our beautiful game in his nation. I look forward to continuing our fantastic working relationship, and together with CAF President Patrice Motsepe, we will work to bring football to young girls and boys at all levels."
On June 13, the FIFA and CAF approved the renovated Amahoro Stadium to host international football competitions.

The renovated Amahoro Stadium was completed after two years of work. Its capacity increased from 25,000 seats to 45,000, meeting all the requirements needed at an international level.
