The Mozambique Armed Forces Chief of General Staff (CGS) Admiral Joaquim Mangrasse met Rwanda Security Forces (RSF) Joint Task Force Commander, Maj Gen Emmy K Ruvusha in Pemba, Cabo Delgado province, on Friday, 27 September.
He commended the progress made over the past years since Rwanda Security Forces deployed to fight terrorists. He appreciated the strong partnership between Rwandan Security Forces and Mozambican Forces which brought peace and stability and enabled thousands of displaced persons to return to their homes in Cabo Delgado Province.
Both sides discussed the progress registered so far in the joint effort to uproot terrorists from their strong holds and hideouts in the last three years since the first deployment of Rwanda Security Forces in Cabo Delgado Province in July 2021.
In July 2021, Rwanda deployed troops to Cabo Delgado, at the request of the Mozambican government.
Rwandan troops were initially deployed to the districts of Mocimboa da Praia, and Palma.
Currently, security has been restored in many parts of Cabo Delgado Province. Schools are re-opening, and people are returning to their shelters, while terrorist fighters are fleeing into the forests.
The RSF continues to support the Mozambique Government in restoring state authority in Cabo Delgado Province by conducting combat and security operations, stabilization, and security sector reform.
