President Paul Kagame on Sunday, November 23, met with President Faustin Archange Touadéra of the Central African Republic, who is in Rwanda for a two-day Working Visit. According to the Office of the President, Village Urugwiro, they discussed the existing cooperation, including Rwanda’s ongoing support through the RDF troops serving under the existing bilateral security agreement as well as those serving in the UN Mission. "The two heads of State also exchanged on the opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation through collaboration in various sectors of mutual benefit for the people of the Central African Republic and Rwanda," Village Urugwiro wrote on X. Rwanda is regarded as a key partner of the Central African Republic across various sectors, particularly in security cooperation. Rwandan troops were first deployed to the Central African Republic in January 2014. Today, Rwanda has more than 2,000 soldiers serving in the country under the UN peacekeeping mission. These forces protect civilians, senior government officials including President Touadéra, UN personnel and equipment, as well as key national installations such as M’Poko International Airport. In addition to the UN mission, Rwanda maintains more than 1,000 soldiers in the Central African Republic under a bilateral agreement. In February 2025, Rwanda and the Central African Republic, through their respective security ministries, signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening security collaboration between the two nations.
