Kigali – 4th  Feb 2026, Rwanda is strengthening its drive toward a knowledge based economy following high level discussions between the Ministry of ICT and Innovation and a delegation from the Qatar Foundation (QF) aimed at expanding cooperation in science, technology and education. Minister of ICT and Innovation Ms Paula Ingabire alongside the Minister of youth and arts of Rwanda Mr  Utumatwishima Jean Nepo Abdallah  hosted officials from the Qatar Foundation in Kigali to explore strategic collaboration opportunities that could enhance Rwanda’s science and innovation sector. The meeting focused on Rwanda’s ambitious vision to establish a hands on science center designed to inspire young people and nurture talent in key areas such as STEM education, robotics, artificial intelligence, coding and biomedical research. The proposed center is expected to create pathways linking academic learning to employment opportunities, supporting the country’s broader youth empowerment agenda.

According to discussions shared by the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, both sides examined possibilities for co-innovation programs, global research partnerships and talent development initiatives. These efforts aim to position Rwanda as a leading hub for science, research and technology development across Africa. Officials emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between education institutions, industries and research organizations to foster innovation driven growth. The partnership discussions also highlighted the need to equip young people with practical skills aligned with global technological trends and labor market demands. The engagement with Qatar Foundation reflects Rwanda’s continued efforts to build international partnerships that support national development priorities, particularly in digital transformation and innovation-led economic growth. Qatar Foundation is globally recognized for its contributions to education, research and innovation, working with international institutions to promote knowledge sharing and technological advancement. The proposed cooperation is expected to accelerate Rwanda’s efforts to develop a skilled workforce capable of driving future scientific and technological progress both regionally and globally.
