Dubai – 4th  Feb 2026,

Rwanda’s digital services platform Irembo has been awarded the 2026 GovTech Prize for best government service in the world at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, marking a major global recognition of the country’s digital transformation efforts. The award was presented during the World Governments Summit in Dubai and handed over by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, honoring the Government of Rwanda’s visionary approach to digital governance.

According to the organizers, the recognition highlights Rwanda’s success in delivering seamless, reliable and nationwide access to public services through Irembo, the country’s central digital gateway for government services.

Irembo has played a key role in simplifying how citizens access essential public services, reducing bureaucracy, improving efficiency and leveraging technology to bring government closer to the people. The platform supports Rwanda’s broader agenda of building a digitally enabled public sector that is transparent, inclusive and citizen centered.

The milestone was celebrated in the presence of H.E. John Mirenge, Rwanda’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, and Estelle Kayitesi Indriets, Senior Manager for Policy and Partnerships at Irembo.

Irembo was officially established in 2015 as part of the Government of Rwanda’s strategy to modernize public service delivery through digital platforms. Launched as a one stop online portal, Irembo was designed to simplify access to government services by allowing citizens to apply, pay for  and receive services online, reducing paperwork and long queues. Over the years, the platform has expanded to host hundreds of public services across multiple institutions, becoming a cornerstone of Rwanda’s digital governance agenda and a model for e-government services in Africa. Rwanda’s recognition at the World Governments Summit places the country among global leaders in GovTech innovation and reinforces its reputation as a pioneer in digital public service delivery in Africa and beyond. The GovTech Prize is one of the most prestigious global awards recognizing governments and platforms that successfully harness technology to improve public service delivery and citizen experience.
