Stevy Daic NDJALA TOTOLO, a dynamic professional from Gabon, has become a key figure in shaping Africa's digital landscape. Since relocating to Kigali, Rwanda, in 2021, Stevy has focused on empowering Africa's youth with the skills needed to succeed in the digital economy. Through his company, Gemini Multimedia Ltd, and his expertise in conference interpreting, voiceover coaching, and digital job consultancy, Stevy is bridging the gap between traditional job markets and the evolving world of digital opportunities. Stevy’s professional journey spans multiple countries, each contributing to his diverse skill set. He began his academic journey in Accra, Ghana, in 2002, and his career path later took him across various African cities, including Libreville, Gabon, Nairobi, Kenya, and back to Ghana. However, it was in 2018, after attending the International Family Planning Conference in Kigali, that Stevy decided to make Rwanda his home. By late 2020, he had fully relocated, and he was ready to focus on Rwanda's rapidly growing digital landscape. “Rwanda’s rapid growth and dynamic opportunities in the digital sphere caught my attention,” Stevy recalls. “It was the perfect place to launch my vision of empowering young Africans with the tools to succeed in the global digital economy.” In 2021, Stevy founded Gemini Multimedia Ltd, a multimedia company dedicated to equipping young Africans with essential digital skills. Through his company, he provides services like conference interpreting, voiceover coaching, and digital job consultancy. His mission is to help individuals tap into the digital economy, especially those seeking sustainable careers through online platforms. Stevy’s approach goes beyond simply offering digital skills. He actively engages with young Africans, particularly students, via Zoom webinars, educating them on how to capitalize on the plethora of online opportunities available. “The internet has become a gateway to countless opportunities, and I believe it’s essential for Africans to embrace this revolution,” Stevy explains. “Whether it's finding a job, starting a business, or learning new skills, the digital space offers a level playing field for everyone.” Stevy’s range of expertise sets him apart in the professional sphere: As a conference interpreter, Stevy offers top-tier interpreting services for international conferences. As a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), his work ensures effective communication among global audiences, facilitating dialogue across linguistic barriers. As a voiceover coach, Stevy’s passion for voice narration led him to provide training for individuals interested in the voiceover industry. He has helped countless aspiring professionals hone their craft and succeed in the booming voice acting sector. As a digital job consultant, Stevy is a staunch advocate for remote work, advising individuals on how to find and secure online job opportunities. His motto, "The internet is the new visa," reflects his belief in the boundless potential of the online job market. Stevy offers a unique comparative analysis of the digital ecosystems in Rwanda and Gabon, shedding light on the challenges that still exist in his home country. While Rwanda is widely regarded as a digital pioneer in Africa, Gabon lags behind in terms of infrastructure and digital opportunities. “Rwanda is miles ahead of most African nations in terms of digital governance and services,” Stevy observes. “The government’s initiatives like Irembo, which digitalize government services, set Rwanda apart as a model of digital transformation. Gabon, on the other hand, still relies heavily on traditional sectors, and the digital gap remains significant." Stevy advocates for Gabon and other African nations to follow Rwanda’s lead in embracing digital innovation. “The digital divide is a real issue, but it can be closed with the right policies and mindset,” he says. Stevy believes in the power of education to transform Africa's future. He stresses the importance of aligning African curriculums with the demands of the digital economy, arguing that universities should integrate digital skills and entrepreneurship into their programs to prepare graduates for the future workforce. “It’s no longer enough to simply graduate with a degree. In today’s world, students need digital literacy and entrepreneurial skills to be competitive,” Stevy emphasizes. “Africa’s educational institutions must evolve to meet the needs of the 21st century.” In addition to his educational efforts, Stevy advocates using social media platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram as tools for economic growth. “Many Africans still view social media primarily as a source of entertainment, but I see it as a powerful platform for creating income and driving business,” he states. “I encourage young people to harness the potential of these platforms to monetize their talents and create sustainable businesses.”
