A tragic collision on the Sydney Harbour Bridge on Thursday afternoon has claimed the lives of two men, following a serious crash involving multiple vehicles, including a coach bus.
According to Acting Superintendent Clayton McDonald, the incident occurred around 1:40 pm, prompting a swift response from emergency services following a flurry of triple-zero calls reporting the accident. On arrival, police discovered that four vehicles and a coach were involved in the severe collision.
“Upon our arrival, it was evident that the collision was of a serious nature,” said Supt. McDonald. “One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and unfortunately, a second man succumbed to his injuries a short time later.” Both deceased individuals were drivers.
Police and emergency crews cordoned off the scene for several hours, creating significant delays and road closures as they conducted preliminary investigations and worked to clear the area. Authorities are now piecing together the events leading up to the accident, which caused significant disruption to one of the city’s busiest arteries.
The identities of the two men have not yet been released, as police are working to notify next of kin. Investigations are ongoing, and police are appealing to any witnesses or those with dashcam footage to come forward to assist in the investigation.
