The Rwandan Diaspora in Australia, who are currently in Rwanda for the festive season, have been engaging in various activities. This includes visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial and paying heartfelt tributes to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
These activities started on Wednesday, January 3rd, when these Rwandans, who normally reside in Australia, along with their friends, gathered at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Kigali, Kimihurura.
The Rwandans in Australia expressed their admiration for the bravery of the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) forces, whose efforts led to the liberation of the country and the end of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Accompanying the diaspora were Sandrine Uwimbabazi Maziyateke, Director of the Rwandan Diaspora in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Patrick Tunga, representing Rwandans residing in Victoria state, Australia.
The Rwandan Diaspora in Australia discussed various topics during this gathering, such as resolving issues for those without necessary documents, including IDs and land documents. They also discussed investment opportunities in Rwanda, among other topics.
Not only that, but most of these individuals are young people who also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial. They tought to learn about the path that led to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. They explored the painful and difficult history that Rwanda endured during those times. Consequently, many of these young people have decided to dedicate themselves to Rwandan unity and reconciliation.
Last year, in the months of August and September , these Rwandans living in Australia visited Rwanda. During this visit, they engaged in various activities. This included participating in a friendly match with the Association of Rwandan Sports Journalists (AJSPOR), visiting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and discussing investment opportunities and benefits in their homeland.
Throughout their visit, they also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial and delved into the history of the country during the Genocide against the Tutsis. They observed the progress made by the country in rebuilding itself and paid their respects at the memorial site.
Rwandans living abroad, especially those in Australia, are always motivated to return to their home country to learn about its history and explore investment opportunities. By doing so, they hope to contribute to the development of both the country and themselves.
