The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore has announced that President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, will be in Singapore on a working visit from September 18 to 23, 2024.

According to a press statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Sep. 17, Singapore and Rwanda will work closely together to advance the interests of small nations and to strengthen the multilateral system as fellow members of the Forum of Small States (FOSS).

“Singapore and Rwanda work closely together to advance the interests of small nations and to strengthen the multilateral system,” read the statement of Singapore MFA.

During his visit, President Kagame will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong.

President Kagame will also be hosted to a meal by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

This will be President Kagame’s fourth visit to Singapore. His last visit was in September 2022.

During that time, former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met with President Paul Kagame at the Istana.

At that time, the two leaders had fruitful discussions on the friendly relations between Singapore and Rwanda, including areas of mutual interest and ideas to further strengthen ties.

They also reaffirmed the need to continue working together as fellow small states, given current global and regional developments.

Singapore and Rwanda established diplomatic ties on March 18, 2005, and have subsequently undertaken a number of economic agreements. A number of bilateral exchanges have recently taken place between Singapore and Rwanda.
