In a historic move aimed at reducing election costs, Rwanda has officially scheduled the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections to be held concurrently on July 15, 2024.

The announcement, detailed in a Presidential Decree released on December 11, 2023, marks the first instance of aligning these crucial electoral processes.

For Rwandans abroad, voting for both the President of the Republic and the 53 Deputies will take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Meanwhile, institutional elections for the Deputies will occur on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, including the election of 24 women deputies, two by the National Youth Council, and one by the National Council of People with Disabilities.

Campaigning is scheduled to commence on June 22, 2024, concluding on July 12, 2024, for those outside Rwanda and on July 13, 2024, within the country.

This move comes as the latest step in Rwanda’s electoral history, following the last presidential elections in 2017 and parliamentary elections in 2018, and signifies the fourth occurrence of presidential elections since the Genocide against the Tutsi ceased.
