FIBA W.C Pre-Qualifiers: Rwanda Women Book Ticket to Semis

On Wednesday, 21 August, Rwanda’s Women’s team won 58-36 against Argentina, securing a second victory at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup pre-qualifiers games and booked a ticket to semis.

The match was attended by President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame at BK Arena.

President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame also attended the game against Lebanon and Great Britain.

Bella Murekatete shined again as she recorded her second straight double-double in the ongoing qualifying tournament, this time scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds, which powered Cheikh Sarr’s side past one of the bookies’ favorites Argentina, claiming the top spot in Group D with one more game to play.

Rwanda will be back in action on Thursday, August 22, when they play their final Group D game against Great Britain.

The pre-qualifying tournament taking place this week in Kigali brings together 8 teams from around the world to battle for a place in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament set to take place in March 2026.
