First Australian leader get engaged while in office

On Valentine’s Day, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, 60, has proposed his partner of four years, Jodie Haydon, 45.

He proposed at the Lodge – the Prime minister’s official Canberra residence – with a ring he designed.

The couple met 4 years ago in 2020 at a business dinner in Melbourne. Mr Albanese become the first Australian leader to get engaged while in office.

Mr Albanese shared on social media a selfie after proposal and captioned: “She said yes.”

“We are thrilled and excited to share this news and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together. We are so lucky to have found each other.” The pair later said in a joint statement.

Mr Albanese had a wife whom they lived together for 19 years of marriage and separated in 2019. Mr Albanese with his former wife Carmel Tebbutt – former New South Wales deputy premier – have 23-year-old son named Nathan Albanese.
