First Lady Jeannette Kagame, Clare Akamanzi (Chief Executive Officer of NBA Africa), and Amadou Gallo Fall (President of the African Basketball League, BAL) discussed a potential partnership to promote basketball in Rwanda.

On March 19th, First Lady Mrs. Jeannette Kagame received Clare Akamanzi and Amadou Gallo Fall at the Imbuto Foundation offices.

“They discussed potential partnerships in building and refurbishing basketball courts, promoting sports, and encouraging healthy lifestyles among Rwandan youth,” the Rwandan First Lady added on X.

Rwanda continues to carry out activities aimed at promoting basketball, including the construction of new and modern stadiums such as the BK Arena and the LDK stadium.

In May 2021, Rwanda signed an agreement to host the Basketball African League final games, BAL.

In 2023, the Government of Rwanda, through the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and the Basketball African League (BAL), extended the cooperation agreement until 2028.

This 5-year extension allows Rwanda to host the qualification games in 2025 and 2027 and the finals in 2024, 2026, and 2028.

Under this agreement, Rwanda is also allowed to host other activities organized by BAL.

When the agreement was extended, the RDB revealed that Rwanda earned more than 9 million US dollars during the two years that the BAL games were held in Rwanda.
