54-year-old former Australian Test cricketer Michael Slater has been charged with more than a dozen offences, his case mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday.

He did not appear in the court as he remained behind bars at Maroochydore police station.

Slater was arrested on 19 charges including domestic violence offences of unlawful stalking or intimidation, breaking into a dwelling with intent at night, common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, breaching bail and choking or suffocation. 9News reported.

Police confirmed they arrested Slater at a Sunshine Coast address on Friday following alleged domestic violence incidents over several days.

He was remanded in custody and will return to court on April 16 for a bail application, with the court’s duty lawyer telling the magistrate he is making enquiries about a rehabilitation facility for the former cricket star.

Slater made his first debut during the 1993 Ashes tour and retired from cricket in 2004 and started a successful TV commentary career.

Slater played 74 Tests for Australia in an eight-year career, scoring 5312 runs and 14 centuries in the long form of the game.

He also starred in 42 one-day internationals for his country.
