German farmers blocked roads with tractors in protest against agricultural policies. The protest started on Monday, January 8, in various parts of Germany, from the countryside to Berlin.
The protestors included farmers who complained or were not satisfied with the government’s policies in agriculture and livestock. These policies involve increasing taxes on farmers and reducing the amount of subsidies they receive.
The protesting farmers carried placards on their tractors with the words “no farmer, no food, no future” and “when farmers are ruined, food has to be imported.”
They even demanded that the government of Prime Minister Olaf Scholz resign and hold new elections, as reported by various newspapers.
