On Wednesday, October 16, the High Commissioner of Rwanda to South Africa, Emmanuel Hategeka, presented his credentials to Andry Rajoelina, President of Madagascar, as Rwanda’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Madagascar.

“He conveyed warm greetings from H.E. President Paul Kagame and his desire to broaden bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Madagascar,” the Rwanda Embassy in South Africa posted on X.

Rwanda and Madagascar have enjoyed good bilateral relations, as seen by the visits of the heads of state between the two countries.

President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame visited Madagascar in June 2019, where the Head of State was the guest of honor during the national commemoration of independence in June of that year.

During the visit, President Kagame said it was an opportunity to deepen the bilateral relationship between Rwanda and Madagascar.

In August 2023, President Andry Rajoelina visited Rwanda, where both Presidents held bilateral talks, reaffirming the strong and fraternal relations between Rwanda and Madagascar, based on mutual respect and shared values.

During the meeting, the two leaders encouraged the implementation status of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Economic Development Board of Madagascar and the Rwanda Development Board on Investment Promotion, signed in February 2019 to enhance economic cooperation between the two nations.

President Andry Rajoelina was among the dignitaries who attended the inauguration ceremony of President Paul Kagame in Kigali in August.
