On July 27, 2024, more than 800 people, including members of the diplomatic corps, friends of Rwanda, and members of the Rwandan community living in Kenya, celebrated the 30th anniversary of Rwanda’s liberation, #Kwibohora30.

Attendees gathered at the High Commissioner’s residence to celebrate the 30th Liberation Day anniversary.

Ambassador Josphat Maikara, Deputy Director-General Americas and the Caribbean Directorate in Kenya’s Department of Foreign Affairs, who was the chief guest at the celebration in Nairobi, praised Rwanda for the progress made over the last 30 years and hailed the good relations between Rwanda and Kenya.

“Rwanda stands as a beacon of hope and resilience – a testament to what can be achieved when a nation chooses unity over division, peace over conflict, and progress over stagnation,” he said.

In his remarks, High Commissioner for Rwanda to Kenya, Martin Ngoga, said the celebration of the 30th anniversary provides an opportunity for Rwandans to reflect on how far the country has come and to share Rwanda’s journey of unity and reconciliation, and the ongoing renewal and vision for a brighter future.

Every July 4, Rwandans and friends of Rwanda, wherever they are, celebrate Liberation Day, the day when the Liberation Struggle ended, and the beginning of Rwanda’s rebirth.

Members of the Rwandan diaspora organize events to celebrate Liberation Day in their respective countries of residence.
