On August 20, 2024, at Kigali International Airport, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the RDF Army Chief of Staff, along with Commissioner of Police Vincent B. Sano, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, bid farewell to the Rwandan Security Forces who have been deployed in Mozambique’s northern province of Cabo Delgado.

The force will relieve their colleagues who have been deployed there for the last year.

During the briefing, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the RDF Army Chief of Staff, underlined the importance of maintaining discipline and momentum that the Rwandan Security Force achieved over the past three years.

Additionally, Commissioner of Police Vincent B. Sano, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, urged the force to always foster teamwork and avoid mistakes that tarnish Rwanda’s reputation.

Over the past three years, Rwanda Security Forces in collaboration with Mozambique armed forces have achieved remarkable success in dismantling the Al Sunna Wa Jama (ASWJ) terrorist group from their strongholds in Mocimbao da Praia and Palma.

This has enabled a significant number of internally displaced people to safely return to their villages.

The departing Rwanda Security Forces will be under the command of Maj Gen Emmy RUVUSHA, who will relieve Major Gen Alex KAGAME.
