A man has been arrested and charged with sending defamatory messages and threatening to kill a Member of Federal Parliament.

 A 39-year-old man was arrested at Brisbane International Airport on Tuesday on charges of threatening a member of Federal Parliament.

 He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday charged with five counts of using a telephone to threaten to kill someone.

 The 39-year-old man will go on trial tomorrow if convicted of the crime and could face between five and ten years in prison.
