Meteo Rwanda alerts unusual wetter conditions in the first dekad of April

The Rwanda Meteorology Agency, Meteo Rwanda, stated that unusual wetter conditions are expected during this time compared to the last dekad of March 2024.

In a statement released by the Meteorology Agency on April 2nd, it was said that the rainfall forecast shows that wetter conditions are expected during the first dekad of April 2024 compared to the last dekad of March 2024.

Meteo Rwanda stated that the amount of rainfall ranging between 40 and 150 mm is expected across the country. The expected rainfall amount will be slightly above the Long-Term Mean (LTM) across many parts of the country (the LTM ranges between 30 and 100 mm).

“Rainy days are expected to vary between three (3) and seven (7) days, evenly distributed across the dekad. The main factors influencing rainfall in this dekad are the Sea Surface Temperature in the Indian Ocean and local factors,” Meteo Rwanda added in the statement.

Rainfall ranging between 120 and 150 mm is expected over the eastern parts of Rubavu, Rutsiro, Rusizi, and Nyamasheke Districts, as well as the western parts of Nyabihu, Ngororero, and Nyamagabe Districts.

Rainfall ranging between 100 and 120 mm is expected in the remaining parts of the Western Province, central parts of Nyamagabe, western parts of Nyaruguru, many parts of Musanze and Burera, and localized parts of Gakenke and Rulindo Districts.

Meteo Rwanda continues to state that moderate to slightly strong wind speeds ranging between 4 and 8 m/s are expected across the country.

The temperature forecast expects that during the first dekad of April 2024, a reduction in the mean maximum temperature compared to the previous dekad of March 2024 is expected. The average maximum temperature is expected to range between 18°C and 28°C, which is within the range of the LTM maximum temperature for the first dekad of April.

Localized parts of Kigali City, southern parts of Bugesera, northern parts of Gisagara, western parts of Ngoma District, Bugarama valley, and eastern parts of Nyagatare Districts are expected to experience higher maximum temperatures ranging between 26°C and 28°C.
