Minister Nduhungirehe Receives Copies of Letter of Credence of Russian Envoy

On Monday, August 26, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe received copies of the Letter of Credence of Alexander Polyakov, Ambassador-designate of the Russian Federation to Rwanda.

“They also discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries,” a tweet from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed.

Rwanda and Russia have enjoyed cooperation since 1963 when Russia was one of the members of the Soviet Union.

Currently, both countries enjoy good relations through their respective resident Diplomatic Missions at the Ambassadorial level. The bilateral cooperation between the two countries revolves around political, military, education, human resource development/training, and cultural ties.

Russia offers University scholarships for Rwandans and provides training for Police officers.

About 800 Rwandan students have graduated from Russian universities over the last 50 years in various disciplines including law, medicine, international affairs, and political science.

On October 17 of last year, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda exchanged messages of greeting on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

During that time, the foreign ministers underscored the traditionally friendly nature of Russian-Rwandan interaction.

They reaffirmed the mutual interest of Moscow and Kigali in further expanding and deepening multifaceted cooperation for the benefit of the people in both countries and reiterated the importance of coordinating joint efforts in the international arena for the sake of peace, security, and stability on the African continent.
