The Rwanda National Electoral Commission, NEC, has announced that from May 15, 2024, to May 30, 2024, it will begin accepting candidates for the President of Rwanda.
According to the instructions contained in the document released by NEC on February 19th, candidates who wish to run for President of the country will be accepted from May 17, 2024, until May 30, 2024.
It goes on to say that the Commission will accept candidates who want to be deputies in the Rwanda Parliament from May 17, 2024, to May 30, 2024.
These instructions state that “The reception of candidates will be done at the headquarters of the National Electoral Commission on working days, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.”
When this period ends on June 6, 2024, the commission will announce the provisional list of approved candidates for the position of President and deputies. On June 14, the final approved list will be announced.
The Electoral Commission, in the announcement, mentions that the list of candidates for the position of the President of the Republic that has been finally approved will be officially published on the website of the Commission on June 14, 2024.
The elections for the President of the Republic and the Deputies in 2024 will be held on July 15, and a budget of 14 billion Frw will be used.
The last Presidential elections were held on August 3 and 4, 2017, while the last deputies’ elections were held on September 2 and 3, 2018.
