The speed limits near school zone could be lowered as the solution of making safety of child pedestrians walking to and from school.
The state government has asked this as new data shows that 25% of students ride or walk to school every day in New South Wales.
If the evaluation shows that speed plays a part in road accidents then the changes could include more safety infrastructure and reduced speed limits in and around school zones. NSW Minister for Roads, John Graham said that children are their most precious pedestrians and they want the safest possible environment for them to get between home and school.
“The NSW Government is investing in safer walking and riding options, but if there is more that can be done, we will do it,” Graham said.
