President Kagame congratulates Diomaye Faye on his election as President of Senegal

The President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame congratulated Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election as president of Senegal to succeed Macky Sall, and told him that he is ready to continue strengthening the good relations between the countries.

This is the message President Kagame wrote on X on March 27.

“My sincere congratulations to Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his election as President of Senegal. Your victory is a true testimony to the confidence of the Senegalese people, I congratulate for the peaceful conduct of the elections”.

“I look forward to further strengthening the good relations between our two nations” President Kagame added on X.

Elections were held in Senegal on March 24, following the international community’s continued request for President Macky Sall to allow democratic elections. 

The Electoral Commission announced the results on March 26, revealing that 44-year-old Bassirou Diomaye Faye had been elected as the leader of Senegal with 53.7% of the votes.

Rwanda and Senegal have maintained a positive political relationship since 2011, with Rwanda having an ambassador representing in Senegal. 

In 2016, a Joint Commission was established to monitor the relations between the two countries.

 In the health sector, Rwanda and Senegal signed an agreement to produce vaccines with the BioNtech factory. When the factory was officially opened in Kigali in 2023, Macky Sall, was amongst the special guests.
