President Paul Kagame met with Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International, in his office at Urugwiro Village on July 3, 2024.

Their discussions focused on further growing Rwanda’s travel and hospitality sector.

Rwanda is one of the more than 130 countries in which Marriott International invests, owning the Kigali Marriott Hotel and Four Points by Sheraton.

On October 4, 2016, The Kigali Marriott Hotel was officially inaugurated by Anastase Murekezi, who was the Prime Minister of Rwanda at the time.

This five-star hotel, located in the city of Kigali, Nyarugenge District, has the capacity to host and accommodate dignitaries, including Heads of State and Kings.

Rwanda is one of the countries that has advanced in developing the tourism sector.

Rwanda’s tourism sector generated revenue of $620 million in 2023, representing a 36% increase from the $500 million generated in 2022, as stated in the 2023 Rwanda Development Board (RDB) annual report.

The RDB annual report indicates that this increase in revenue is due to an increase in tourist visitors. In 2023, Rwanda hosted 1.4 million tourists.

The report shows that in 2023, the country hosted 160 conferences and related activities attended by 65 thousand people, earning $95 million compared to $62 million in 2022.
