President Paul Kagame on November 8 met with Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane of the Kingdom of Lesotho, who is in Rwanda to attend the 7th edition of Youth Connekt Africa summit.

“They discussed ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and the Kingdom of Lesotho,” the Office of the President posted on X.

Bilateral relations between Rwanda and Lesotho date back as far as 1983 and are underpinned by mutual respect and collaboration.

The two countries have enjoyed cordial relations for over four decades, continuously working to strengthen their collaboration in various fields.

On October 4, Rwanda and the Kingdom of Lesotho signed a general cooperation agreement on the establishment of a Joint Bilateral Commission. The agreement was signed by Emmanuel Hategeka, Rwanda’s High Commissioner accredited to Lesotho, and Lejone Mpotjoane, Lesotho’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Samuel Matekane of the Kingdom of Lesotho and Rwanda’s Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente during the 58th independence anniversary celebrations in Maseru, Lesotho.

The agreement establishes a comprehensive cooperation framework covering economy and development, social development, and good governance.

Both Rwanda and Lesotho are represented by their non-resident missions in Pretoria and Addis Ababa.
