Rwanda advanced in strengthening international diplomacy

Rwanda continues to advance in building good relations based on diplomacy and has many embassies in foreign countries, as announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Vincent Biruta.

At the Rwanda Day 2024 summit in Washington DC, Minister Dr. Vincent Biruta stated that Rwanda has made progress in opening embassies around the world. Since October 2019, Rwanda has opened 8 new diplomatic missions on four different continents, bringing the total number of diplomatic missions abroad to 47.

“Since the last Rwanda Day in October 2019, Rwanda has opened 8 new diplomatic missions on four different continents, bringing the total number of our diplomatic missions abroad to 47,” Minister Dr. Biruta said.

Minister Dr. Vincent Biruta also mentioned that for the first time in Rwanda’s history, it will have a diplomatic presence in Latin America, as Rwanda plans to open an embassy in Brazil.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Rwanda currently has 46 diplomatic missions and one (1) General Consulate covering 147 countries, regional, and international organizations.

In addition, 37 honorary consuls represent Rwanda’s strategic interests in 17 countries.

Rwanda is a member of 201 multilateral organizations at a regional and international level, according to Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs reports.

Data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation shows that there are 45 diplomatic missions with residence in Rwanda. A total of 35 regional and international organizations have representation in Rwanda, and 20 countries are represented by Honorary Consuls.

Additionally, Rwanda has 72 non-resident diplomatic missions accredited to it.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveals that 35 regional and international organizations have representation in Rwanda.
