Rwanda and Spain have signed agreements on Education and diplomatic training through their respective Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Dr Vincent Biruta and José Manuel Albares.
The signing took place during Dr Vincent Biruta’s visit to Spain, where he held a bilateral meeting with Minister José Albares. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda reported that the two Ministers discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation and signed agreements on Higher Education and Diplomatic Training.
The cooperation between Rwanda and Spain is not new, as the countries established diplomatic relations in 1967.
In December 2020, Minister Dr Vincent Biruta and Spain’s Alancha González signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen bilateral relations. In Spain’s Africa Strategy for 2023, Rwanda was named as a country of economic interest.
Rwanda does not have an embassy in Spain, but its embassy in Paris represents it in Spain and has a consulate in Madrid. On the other hand, Spain does not have an embassy in Rwanda, but its embassy in Tanzania represents it in Rwanda and has a consulate in Kigali.
