Rwanda earned $857 million from agricultural exports

Rwanda earned $875 million equivalent to 1,090 Frw billion in agricultural exports after Covid-19 pandemic as revealed by the National Agricultural Export Development Board, NAEB, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources.

This was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources on X as stated Rwanda’s agriculture sector flourished thanks to the rewarding policies including subsidizing fertilizers and seeds.

As a result, food prices stabilized while agricultural production and foreign currency earnings significantly increased.

The Ministry of Agriculture sated that before Covid-19, Rwanda earned $418 million that is 531 billion FRW.

It is during the last year of 2023, earned $875 million equivalent to 1,090 Frw billion. It means that there has been an increase of 51% in exports from agriculture and livestock.

During 2023 third season agriculture production rises at 3% while there is an increase of 3.4 crop production during that season.

  

Before Covid-19, Rwanda provided subsidies on fertilizers worth 10 billion FRW while in the year 2023-2024, subsidies worth 51 billion FRW has already been provided.

The Ministry of Agriculture and animal resources revealed that before Covid-19, 46 kg of fertilizer was used per hectare, while last year 2023, 70.3 kg of fertilizer was used per hectare.
