Rwanda, Germany discuss further ways to strengthen bilateral relations

Rwanda’s Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente received Ms. Heike Uta Dettmann, the German Ambassador to Rwanda.

Office of Prime Minister stated that during their discussions, they explored ways to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between Rwanda and Germany were established in 1962. Ever since, there exist close and trust-based ties.

A grassroot partnership between the residents of Rhineland- Palatinate and Rwandan citizens exists for nearly 40 years.

On economic cooperation during government negotiations in October 2022, Germany pledged 93.6 million euros to Rwanda for the period 2022 to 2024.

Of this, 63 million euros are allocated to financial cooperation and 30.6 million euros for technical cooperation.

Rwanda is part of the G20 Compact with Africa initiative launched by Germany to improve economic framework conditions. Since the COVID-19 crisis, Germany has also been an important partner to Rwanda in the field of health, for example through the work of the Robert Koch Institute, the multilateral COVAX vaccine initiative and the opening of a BioNTech vaccine production facility.
