Rwanda has received a first asylum seeker from UK under a voluntary scheme on Tuesday.

The identity of the migrant wasn’t published as he left UK on Monday.

This us under Britain’s migration and economic development partnership with Rwanda, where asylum seekers who will agree to leave Britain for Rwanda will be offered financial assistance.

This is the measure Britain took to deter asylum seekers from crossing the English Channel in small boats to live in the kingdom as ten of thousands asylum seekers entered Britain since 2018.

Last week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said he expected the first flights to take off in 10 to 12 weeks.

The asylum seekers who won’t depart with voluntary scheme will be departed with forced programme that is about to embark on in the next few months.

British government said the asylum seeker who will depart with voluntary scheme would be paid up to 3,000 pounds ($3,747.60) to clear the backlog of refugees who have arrived in the country in recent years.

Deputy Rwandan Government Spokesperson Alain MUKURALINDA confirmed the news that Rwanda received first asylum seeker from UK.

The first asylum seeker is said to be of Africa origin, according to The Sun.
