Rwanda Views China as an Important and Reliable Partner – Minister Nduhungirehe

On Thursday, September 12, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Nduhungirehe, joined the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.

In his remarks, Minister Nduhungirehe hailed the strong cooperation between Rwanda and China, which was recently elevated to the “comprehensive strategic partnership” status.

“Rwanda views China as an important and reliable partner that has significantly contributed to our socio-economic development. This collaboration has been particularly impactful in priority sectors such as infrastructure, health, energy, and education, aligning with our shared vision of mutual growth and prosperity.”

“China stands as one of Rwanda’s leading trading partners, with investments exceeding $1.2 billion. We greatly value and recognize China’s significant contribution,” said Minister Nduhungirehe.

Ambassador Wang Xuekun said Rwanda-China relations are now at the best in history.

“Let’s work together to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. Let’s work together to advance our cooperation in various fields and inject new momentum into the comprehensive strategic partnership,” said Ambassador Wang.

On September 6 in Beijing, President Paul Kagame met with President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China at the side line of the China-Africa Summit.

During the meeting attended by delegations from both Rwanda and China, discussions revolved around the ongoing collaboration in key sectors including health, infrastructure, and technology.

The Heads of State also discussed their mutual commitment to multipolar global governance, based on sovereignty, self-determination, and values.

The Republic of Rwanda and the People’s Republic of China established diplomatic relations in 1971, and since then, the political cooperation relationship between the two countries has grown exponentially. The bilateral relations between the two countries have been steadily growing.
