Rwanda Welcomed the 17th group of 91 asylum seekers from Libya originating from Sudan (38) Eritrea (33), Somalia (11), Ethiopia (7) and South Sudan (2).

This was wrote by Rwanda’s Ministry of Emergency, on X as they stated tonight, in partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, Rwanda welcomed the 17th group of 91 asylum seekers from Libya originating from Sudan (38) Eritrea (33), Somali (11), Ethiopia (7) & South Sudan (2).

“Rwanda remains committed to offering refuge to people in need” Rwanda Ministry of Emergency added on X.

These migrants have joined more than 653 others who were already accommodated in the Gashora camp located in the Bugesera district, while searching for countries that can host them.

In 2019, the Government of Rwanda, in collaboration with the African Union, UNHCR, and other partners, set up a program to help migrants who had been living in various camps in Libya while waiting to reach Europe.

So far, more than 2000 evacuees have been received in 17 groups. 68% of them have been resettled in third countries: Canada 381, Sweden 255, Norway 193, USA 168, France 141, Finland 187, Netherlands 82, and Belgium 26.
