Rwanda’s Prime Minister attends state funeral of President Hage Geingob

Prime Minister of Rwanda Dr Edouard Ngirente is representing President Kagame at the memorial service and state funeral of President Hage Geingob on Saturday, February 24th. 

On February 4th, the Namibian Government announced the death of President Hage Geingob, who died at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek after suffering from cancer.

Since President Geingob’s death, Rwanda has shown support for the people of Namibia. President Kagame has sent condolences to First Lady Monica Geingos, her family, and the people of Namibia, acknowledging Geingob’s role in the liberation of his country.

On February 10th, 2024, Rwanda’s First Lady, Jeannette Kagame, visited Namibia to offer condolences to Geingob’s wife, Monica Geingos, and her family at their home, Casa Rosalia.

During the funeral ceremony, Prime Minister Ngirente represented President Kagame and was joined by other African leaders and Namibians in paying their respects to President Hage Geingob.

Following Geingob’s death, Nangolo Mbumba, who was the Vice President of Namibia, assumed the role of President according to the provisions of the country’s Constitution. He will hold this position until November 2024, when new elections will be held.
