Four people, including a New York City police officer, were killed in a mass shooting inside a high-rise building in Midtown Manhattan on Monday evening.

Police say the gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Las Vegas, entered the office building at 345 Park Avenue around 6:30 PM with a visible MR rifle. He started shooting in the lobby and later on an upper floor before taking his own life. The shooting caused panic in the busy area. People outside ran for cover, while those inside the building hid in fear. Some used furniture to block doors as they waited for help. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the building houses major offices, including the NFL and Blackstone. The first person shot was Officer Didarul Islam, who was working security in the lobby. Tamura then shot at others, including a woman hiding behind a pillar, another security guard behind a desk, and a man nearby. The three other victims have not yet been identified. Police said Tamura had a history of mental health issues, but the reason behind the attack is still being investigated.
