Ambassador Col. (Rtd) Donat Ndamage presented his letters of credence to the President of the Union of Comoros as the new Ambassador of Rwanda to this country, which is made up of three islands in Southeastern Africa, with residence in Maputo, Mozambique. Amb. Col. (Rtd) Donat Ndamage presented his credentials to President Azali Assoumani during a ceremony held at the Beit-Salaam Palace in Moroni on 5 July 2025. According to the Rwanda Embassy in Maputo, which is accredited to the Union of Comoros, the Ambassador had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Union of Comoros, Mohamed Mbaé Chanfiou, and presented copies of his letters of credence to the Minister. “The MoFA and President Azali reiterated the good relationship between the two brotherly nations and emphasized the need to strengthen existing bilateral relations of cooperation in various sectors,” the embassy wrote on X. In 2022, Rwanda and the Union of the Comoros signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in areas including good governance, diaspora engagement, social protection, and digital solutions, among others. The agreement was signed in June between Rwanda Cooperation, a government institution mandated to coordinate Rwanda’s South-South Cooperation activities and promote the country’s innovative development initiatives and the International Cooperation Agency of the Comoros (ACCI).
